Support after a motor vehicle accident

Being in a motor vehicle accident can affect more than just your physical body. Many people notice emotional and psychological changes in the days, weeks, or months that follow.

You might be experiencing:

  • anxiety or heightened stress

  • feeling on edge or easily startled

  • intrusive thoughts about the accident

  • sleep difficulties or nightmares

  • emotional overwhelm or irritability

  • difficulty getting back to your normal routine

These responses are common after a stressful or traumatic event.

How ICBC counselling works:

If you’ve been in a motor vehicle accident in BC, you may be eligible for pre-approved counselling sessions through ICBC.

This means:

  • no doctor referral is required (in most cases)

  • you may have direct billing coverage through ICBC

  • you can begin support shortly after your claim is approved

If you’re unsure about your coverage, you can reach out and we can clarify next steps together.

Getting started:

If you have an active ICBC claim or think you may be eligible for coverage, you’re welcome to reach out.

We can:

  • confirm your coverage

  • answer any questions

  • help you book your first session

How therapy can help:

ICBC-funded counselling focuses on helping you process the emotional impact of the accident and rebuild a sense of safety in your daily life.

In sessions, we may work on:

  • processing anxiety and stress responses

  • reducing hypervigilance and fear reactions

  • improving sleep and emotional regulation

  • understanding how your nervous system is responding

  • rebuilding confidence in driving or daily activities

The goal is to help your system settle after a stressful event and support your return to normal functioning at a pace that feels manageable.
